Prilocaine Description:
Prilocaine is a local anesthetic of the amino amide type first prepared by Claes Tegner and Nils Lö Fgren. In its injectable form (trade name Citanest), it is often used in dentistry. It is also often combined with lidocaine as a preparation for dermal anesthesia (lidocaine/prilocaine or EMLA), for treatment of conditions like paresthesia. As it has low cardiac toxicity, it is commonly used for intravenous regional anaesthesia (IVRA).
Prilocaine Application:
Prilocaine topical is a local anesthetic (numbing medication). It works by blocking nerve signals in your body.
Prilocaine topical is used to numb the skin, or surfaces of the penis or vagina, in preparation for a medical procedure or to lessen the pain of inserting a medical instrument such as a tube or speculum.
Before using prilocaine cream:
Some medical conditions may interact with prilocaine cream. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:
if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substance
if you have severe liver disease, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, or a perforated ear drum
if you have been ill.
Proper storage of prilocaine cream:
Store prilocaine cream at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C), in a tightly closed container. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep lidocaine/prilocaine cream out of the reach of children and away from pets.
