Vardenafil Hydrochloride Descriptions:
Levitra works by helping to relax muscles and increase blood flow into the penis during sexual stimulation. This helps men to achieve and maintain an erection. Levitra is used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence). Do not take Levitra if you are also using a nitrate drug for chest pain or heart problems (such as nitroglycerin). During sexual activity, if you become dizzy or nauseated, or have pain, numbness, or tingling in your chest, arms, neck, or jaw, stop and call your doctor right away. You could be having a serious side effect of Levitra. Contact your doctor or seek emergency medical attention if your erection is painful or lasts longer than 4 hours. A prolonged erection (priapism) can damage the penis.
Vardenafil Hydrochloride is a PDE5 inhibitor used for treating erectile dysfunction. Vardenafil's indications and contra-indications are the same as with other PDE5 inhibitors; it is closely related in function to sildenafil citrate (Viagra) and tadalafil (Cialis). The difference between the vardenafil molecule and sildenafil citrate is a nitrogen atom's position and the change of sildenafil's piperazine ring methyl group to an ethyl group. Tadalafil is structurally different from both sildenafil and vardenafil. Vardenafil's relatively short effective time is comparable to but somewhat longer than sildenafil's.

Initially, 10 mg.1 Depending on effectiveness and tolerance, increase dosage to a maximum of 20 mg or decrease to 5 mg. Administer no more frequently than once daily.

Special Populations:
Hepatic Impairment:
In patients with moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh class B), decrease initial dosage to 5 mg; maximum dosage is 10 mg once daily.1 Not studied in patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh class C).
Renal Impairment:
Dosage adjustments not required in patients with patients with mild (Clcr of 50–80 mL/minute) to severe (Clcr <30 mL/minute) renal impairment.1 Not studied in patients requiring renal dialysis.
Geriatric Patients:
Reduce initial dose to 5 mg given no more frequently than once daily in men ≥65 years of age.
